The Role

The Senior Research Associate will support activities within the Discovery Biology Department. This position involves application of Molecular and Cellular Biology techniques to produce, purify and characterize AAV viral vectors. The Senior Research Associate will be located in our South San Francisco R&D laboratories.  

Responsibilities

  • Purification and characterization of AAV vectors using column chromatography and gradient centrifugation
  • Support AAV production by maintaining, banking, transfecting and screening mammalian cells in culture, working with a variety of cells, transfection methodologies and screening assays
  • Collect and evaluate data; prepare reports, summaries and presentations; maintain and update laboratory notebook and the laboratory information management system, as appropriate, according to company policy.
  • Analysis of purified AAV vectors by SDS-PAGE, agarose gel electrophoresis, ddPCR, rtPCR and UV.
  • Conduct, design, and troubleshoot experiments, independently and in collaboration with colleagues, to produce novel AAV vectors.
  • Manage small independent projects that include optimization of experimental procedures.
  • Consult with scientific literature and other scientists as needed to better understand scientific experiments and problems and come up with solutions to emerging problems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline with 8+ years of experience or a Master's Degree with 5+ years of experience in Molecular and Cell Biology techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with AAV production, purification and characterization.
  • Proven experience with routine molecular biology techniques, such as isolation and quantification of DNA and RNA, ddPCR, gel electrophoresis, gradient centrifugation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with viruses, especially Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV).
  • Experience with AKTA FPLC for protein purification.
